Barn Wood Style Mirror

How do you like the faux barn-wood mirror?

Here is how the mirror looked before

and now with the faux barn-wood.

The faux barn-wood boards are held on by screws. The screws are through the back of the frame.

I think the framed mirror turned out pretty cool!

Barn-Wood Ceiling Medallion...You Can Make One Too!

Faux barn-wood!

I have seen barn-wood all over blogland. I fell in love with it at first sight. Since my area does not have any old barns I decided I could make my own barn style wood.

~ How to Age the Wood ~

Apple Cider Vinegar
Steel Wool
Container for Solution
Paint Brush
I used: (rough cut cedar wood from Lowes)
Any boards that look like barn-wood will work....I used cedar. It's from Lowes and the stock number is 7499. The wood size was 1" x 4" x 8 feet. The wood has a smooth side and a rough side. I used the rough side.

Pour the apple cider vinegar into a container. Add the steel wool and let it sit for 24 hours.
I used a chip paint brush to apply the mixture to the wood.
*Save your leftover mixture. I poured the rest into a glass jar. I discarded the steel wool.

~ Barn-wood Ceiling Medallion ~
I used (Titebond 11) premium wood glue to glue the boards together. I waited another 24 hours for the glue to set up and dry.

My husband cut the circle for me. I used a charger plate for the size.
(13 inches)

He also used a router to finish off the edge of the medallion.

I used the apple cider vinegar mixture again to stain the sides.

Now the fun part begins! It's time to hang the wagon wheel.

The wagon wheel light is on a dimmer switch. It's very bright in the picture! It will also go as low as candlelight.

The glass globes are from Lowes.

Not bad for faux barn-wood.

I was asked: How long did you leave the vinegar mixture on your wood? Or do you just let it soak in?

Reply - Just wipe the mixture on and wait till it dries :)

UPDATE Lighting - Don't Feed The Bears ...Or They Will Follow You Home!

I took these pictures of my son's room last night. The room is HUGE. I've been able to finish off one area so far.

It was so cold yesterday it felt like winter. It was a good idea to work on the room and not play in my garden. The weeds can wait. :)

The mirror will be getting an update soon!

Do you remember the headboard?

I repainted it and added pleather fabric.

The mattress is on a platform bed. I bought it unfinished and stained it. I wonder if I should add a bedskirt.
I have been buying things at consignment stores and garage sales. Finding western type items is not easy living in the northeast.

I still need to add a desk, a new area rug, make window treatments (I'm going to make fabric covered cornices)
and finish deciding where all the toys will go. This room if you remember was the playroom.

I will need to decide on how to treat the humongous radiator. I'd love to make it a window seat. Any ideas would be wonderful.

I'm halfway done with the update on the wagon wheel. I used Rub-n-Buff on it.

Western Wagon Wheel Lighting

*Update

I made the medallion to look like old barn-wood.

The glass shades are from Lowes.

Bedroom is Getting a Makeover

The bedroom is used as the playroom. I am slowly converting it to my son's room.

I love going to consignment shops. I decided to purchase this large iron headboard. I knew it would look fantastic in the room. I also picked up the lamp there. I just added a glass shade from Lowes.

~ Iron Headboard ~
Do you see the potential? I ran back out and came home with a sample of faux leather/pleather.

I painted the iron headboard with many different shades of brown.

This was another find. The pottery was painted red. I just repainted it blue and brown. I may still need to paint the inside blue.

The room needs some cool looking lighting so this baby came home with me too.

I cleaned it up and used silver rub-n-buff on it.

Here are some of the things that might work in the room.

I painted the walls Ralph Lauren Naturals Popular Island. I decided to get a darker pleather (fake leather) for the headboard.

There is so much more that needs to be done. I just thought you would like to see a sneak peek. This is going to take me awhile to finish.
