How to Update an Old Table with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

No need to always buy new furniture. One of the fastest and easiest ways to update what you already have is to use chalk paint. Even if you're a beginner at painting you will find chalk paint very easy to use on almost any surface. The best part is no priming is needed. You can paint a piece of furniture in minutes and it dries very quickly. You can wax with paste wax or bowling alley wax to give it a durable finish. I then like the distressed finish so I sand the furniture in certain places with 220 grit sandpaper and apply more wax to seal the finish. These finishes are so popular right now and look beautiful in any decor.

The Annie Sloan (Old White) chalk paint looks really pretty with Benjamin Moore 

linen white on my walls. The two colors have brightened up my foyer and gave it a fresh new look.

I'm so happy I painted the mahogany table shelf with chalk paint. This wood is cheap mahogany so I did not feel guilty at all painting it. I couldn't wait to update it as you can see.  I put the partially painted table up just to see how it was looking. So far so good!

Next, I finished the painting, let it dry and applied a coat of TREWAX clear paste wax.

The French gold mirror about the table shelf has now been moved to above the bench. 

I also painted it with chalk paint and did the same treatment.

Horchow catalog has very similar mirrors that look almost like my chalk painted mirror.

I painted the table shelf with two light coats of old white chalk paint. It took me no longer than a half hour between coats. Chalk paint dries really fast! I then waxed it the next day and sanded it pretty heavy. I wanted to bring out all the curves and carvings in the wood. 

As you can see I've already started working on the staircase. I will be painted it Benjamin Moore linen white. It's a huge project that I hope to finish in the next couple of weeks.

I might make two more and put them above my newly painted table shelf. 

 The antique doily I bought in Upstate New York. I love it! I find it gives everything I put on it that extra charm.

My newly painted table shelf received many coats of TREWAX clear paste wax. I think at least (6) coats. I wanted it to shine and take center stage. I buffed it like crazy!
