UPDATE Lighting - Don't Feed The Bears ...Or They Will Follow You Home!

I took these pictures of my son's room last night. The room is HUGE. I've been able to finish off one area so far.

It was so cold yesterday it felt like winter. It was a good idea to work on the room and not play in my garden. The weeds can wait. :)

The mirror will be getting an update soon!

Do you remember the headboard?

I repainted it and added pleather fabric.

The mattress is on a platform bed. I bought it unfinished and stained it. I wonder if I should add a bedskirt.
I have been buying things at consignment stores and garage sales. Finding western type items is not easy living in the northeast.

I still need to add a desk, a new area rug, make window treatments (I'm going to make fabric covered cornices)
and finish deciding where all the toys will go. This room if you remember was the playroom.

I will need to decide on how to treat the humongous radiator. I'd love to make it a window seat. Any ideas would be wonderful.

I'm halfway done with the update on the wagon wheel. I used Rub-n-Buff on it.

Western Wagon Wheel Lighting

*Update

I made the medallion to look like old barn-wood.

The glass shades are from Lowes.

It's coming together nicely, Dee! I think you're doing great finding things out of mainstream retail stores. It may take time, but you'll probably get better prices and things you'll love to use. I think a window seat is a great idea.

Dearest Dee,

You did a great job so far. Love the head board on the bed and I would not add a bed skirt. It is more convenient for cleaning etc. without it and its a boy's room. As for the radiator, I cannot imagine the humongous proportion of it compared to the window and the rest.
Making a window seat would restrict the heat distribution somewhat but it might be the best option for 'looks'.
Have a wonderful week and it is nippy here as well. We had rain and its very windy...
Love,
Mariette

Oh my gosh! This is magazine-worthy! I LOVE the old Boy Scout books and the whole arrangement on the dresser. I like the bed without a skirt -- makes it look more manly. I also love the idea of a window seat on the radiator -- did you check out pinterest and see what maybe others have done with theirs?

You are right, that is one huge room to decorate. I really like what you have done with it. Everything looks so westerny:)

It looks great! I think the bed looks good without a dust ruffle. It's got nice, clean lines =)

The room is really coming together. I love the theme.

We have radiators just like yours in our old barber shop building, and I don't know what to do with them either.

Maybe you just stumbled upon a new business venture....The Wild North East West, since if you can't find western stuff no one else can either.

This room is terrific, all the accessories and the colors look wonderful together. Oh, that radiator is big. Is there any way to build a desk area over the top of it towards the corner?

Someone said check out pinterest, that might produce some more ideas. The wagon wheel is going to be great.

Your son is going to feel all the love you put into this room and remember it forever. I'm sure he'll be telling stories someday to his children, of grandma's loving heart. Connie :)

Your are on a roll...creating a light fixture out of a wheel. Alot of credit to you for being so creative.

Can't you just build a plywood box around the radiator? That would only add 1/2 inch. Looks great.

The woodsy theme certainly has this room well on its way! Love the lantern, the scout books and of course, the bear sign. :-) No bedskirt- keep it clean-looking. But if you can build a vented front cover bench seat, I say go for it.

Dee! This room is getting more and more awesome every time I see it!!
And yes, NJ is not known for it's western decor! LOL!!!
I would get plywood with that metal that has holes in it and make a radiator cover. I will look pretty from the front with the metal and be a shelf on top. Does that make sense?????

Awesome! I love the rustic atmosphere you've created. I've seen beautiful DIY radiator covers - I think it could work as a window seat or display shelf/book case. Love the additional plans you have and can't wait to see them all in place!

Hi Dee, It's looking fabulous! And I can't wait to see the lighting when you finish. I came so close to buying a cowhide rug for the family room redo but in the end went with something else. I am seeing more and more of them in the decor lately. I wish you could shop down here. I saw some great western stuff yesterday while out treasure hunting. Sounds like your weather is exactly the same as ours. I am planting flowers today outside in the rain. I get all wet but it gives the sweet plants a head start. :)
