Chalk Paint Sign

Creative Artist!

I made this sign for my soon to be office.

This was just a test run to see how it looked. I decided to leave off the rabbit.

I painted the wood with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.
Then I sanded it quite a bit.
I reversed the images and printed it off on my laser printer.

~How I did it ~

After reversing the images I used - Mod Podge - (glue) and applied it to the toner side of the paper. Gluing the images face down on the wood. Then I wiped up the glue along the edges with a damp sponge. I waited about an hour for the Mod Podge to dry.
In small sections I added puddles of water on the paper waiting about thirty seconds and sponging off. I then rolled off the paper with my fingers exposing the words and fleur de lis.
An hour later I sealed it with *polycrylic in clear satin - water based. It took the hazed look off the paper and made the black toner look sharp and clear.

Happy Crafting!

  10. Sign looks great, Dee, but I am so lost. I am still trying to down load a vintage pic to make a label for a large jar. I thought I chose a small size but it prints 8 1/2 x 11! xo

  13. The sign looks great! I've always left the glue to dry overnight before rubbing back. If it worked for you, I'll give the shorter time a go. Thanks. ~ Maureen

  21. I have got to try this. What a great idea and it turned out beautiful. When you said toner, I'm thinking laser printer. Is that right? I only have an ink jet, but I could get laser copies made at Staples when I'm in town. I have a project that I've started that this would work perfect on. I'M SO EXCITED!!!
