Seashells and Starfish in a Letterblock Printer's Tray

Decorate a letterblock printers tray with seashells! Do you like to collect shells? Are they in a box where no one can see them including you? Why not display them in a printer's tray or shadow box. This would be a great time to start a collection. One you could do with your children or grandkids this year. Who doesn’t love finding beautiful treasures on the beach? Make a new tradition where you go each year to find new seashells. Maybe get lucky along the way and find a few starfish in the water. The best place to find them is around the rocks. Starfish are right where the tide goes in and out. *Of course you can always find seashells at your local craft store.
What You Need:
Letterblock Printers Tray
Primer Paint
Black Spray Paint
Seashells
Minwax - Polycrylic
Sobo Glue
Spray paint the letterblock/printers tray with primer. I did two light coats. Now paint the seashells with Minwax polycrylic and let dry. This gives the seashells a nice sheen.  It also brings out the color of the shells. After an hour paint the letterblock/printers tray. I used black spray paint but any color you like will work. Let dry! Now glue your seashells in your printer's tray.
Make sure your seashells dry flat overnight before hanging.
I love the look of starfish.
Now admire your work.
Happy Crafting!

Dee I love your printers box filled with such pretty seashells. What a wonderful presentation. I have an old printers box somewhere and now I have to find mine and do something neat too. You have inspired me. As always great directions. rj

Very pretty and unique presentation. I love the idea that you can collect them and they can be a visual reminder of your walks by the ocean.

I actually used to collect these printers boxes and fill them with cute little trinkets and hang them all over the place. I just love all of the pretty shells that you have displayed in yours. And keep thinking positive sewing thoughts!

Hi Dee! Oh, I wish I had time to do that - so perfect for those empty walls! And I love the shells! btw, you were in my top 3 referrals and I want to put your button up but you don't have the html code with your button. This is a lovely idea...and it looks so beautiful! The black paint of the printer's tray highlights the seashells so beautifully... lovely way to display all your shell collection. I like the idea of coating the seashells with poly acrylic...it does make the shells look more shiny. Very inspiring post! Thanks for sharing and for your sweet comment on my summer drink. Have a wonderful week!~Poppy

Dearest Dee,

First time ever I see an old printer box besides my own... Mine is from a newspaper in The Netherlands and my Dad did clean it out and gave it an oak stain. I've all little things in it; mostly silver and covered with a plexi-glass lid, hinged from the top. That way we can keep the dust out somewhat better.
Yours looks great with the sea shells. Smart idea!

I'm a fairly new follower and am really enjoying your posts! You are very clever and so imaginative, I love it! Your project with the printer's tray has really motivated me. I have the tray and lots of shells I've collected, some from our area here at our beach cottage, some from travels to other countries. I have wanted to do this but was afraid it would not look good. Now that I have seen yours I realize it would look fabulous! I would not have thought of spraying the shells and I know they will look better that way. Thanks so much for the visual, the ideas and the motivation! Take care, VBg

Hi Dee, this is such a fun idea to do with kids -- too bad that neither Denise and I live by the sea... We actually both live in a desert type area, but there are cool rocks and such that you could still use on the printer's tray. Thanks for a great idea and for sharing it on #simplybebetsy!
