A Tour Around My Dining Room

The furniture is made by Henredon and is

all hand carved mahogany wood.

We bought the furniture when we closed on the house. It was a way to have everyone here for the holidays. We were pretty extravagant before having children. There would be no way we would buy something like this now.

The planter is from IKEA. I covered it in burlap - photo above.  The planter has wheels with a built in reservoir.

*Less watering and no mess!

(The plant is a Peace Lily)

I adore having the built in china cabinets.

The china cabinets were missing the knobs when we moved in. I added the round antique style knobs.

The breakfront is quite large and holds all my fine china.

I purchased the dishes at a consignment shop.

I love the gold on the rims and cup handles.

Close-up of carved detail on top of the breakfront.

I went with drapery sheers on the windows. I did not want to add heavy drapes as seen in most English Tudors by me.

I like how the drapery sheers feel light and airy. They also show off my collection of Mottahedeh - Chelsea Birds.

My husband bought the Chelsea Birds (plates) for me many years ago for Christmas. He added to my collection overtime. I have a pitcher and two vases that match.

The chandelier came with the house. I am not really fond of it. I did make it work. I used faux gold leaf on it and made the chain cover.

 ~ Gold Leaf ~

The bee shades I found at Tuesday Morning last year.

I love anything that has to do with nature...bird, bees, seashells, etc.

The clock was my grandparents. My parents had it in their home for years. One day my dad said it was mine. It made my day!

After my grandmother passed away I got her beautiful plates. I adore them and think of her every day. I love having sweet memories of loved one.

Grandma's plates are above my sunroom door.

Do you also decorate with plates?

The serving table is from Bombay. I sure do miss them. It was a great place to shop and find great gifts.

The rabbit door-stopper I found when we went to New Hampshire. There was a cute little shop with all decorative iron pieces.

I hope you enjoyed the tour.

Thanks for stopping by!

Dee

Wow, what a great space. There are so many things I love. Very creative with the chandy. The bunny door stop is so unique, I have never seen one like it. I swoon over your built in china cabinet. Hubby said he would build me one, but I think he forgot. Thanks for sharing your beautiful space:)

Dee,

Your dining room is absolutely gorgeous! I love the furniture and love that it seats so many.

I know what you mean about inherited items meaning so much. It's so neat that you were able to use the plates where you see them daily.

Have a great day!

Very elegant Dee. Beautiful.
You sure can't find solid wood and if you do you pay the hefty price.

You have such a beautiful dining room, Dee! I love how large it is (great for fitting the whole family) and it has such a elegance to it. It's great that you have accented the room with so many family treasures.

Dearest Dee,

You've accomplished a lot. Love the corner hutch for the china display. And your dining room furniture is fabulous. Yes, I have a few plates on the wall too. Limoges and some collection plates in the hall way, hand painted and numbered. Some plates on a plate stand too.
Your clock is very special and it certainly must have made your day!
The lamp cover I find a bit too pronounced in color and thickness with the otherwise lovely lamp shades and the rest in the room. Sure, the photo does add sometimes dimensions that are not very 'real' as seen in the last photo where it looks less pronounced.
Enjoy your week.
Love,

Mariette

A beautiful room and lots of light coming in make it so pleasant. I like your china and the family treasures, your personal touches (burlap) make it a family place, not so formal that you can't relax. I'm glad you showed the closeup of the lamp shades, at first they looked like polka dots and I thought, no Dee didn't do that, little bees, I like that! Your rabbits and hares are sweet.

Wow, your dining room is gorgeous and so elegant! I love great dining room furniture. My hubby gave me this great Italian dining set 18 years ago for one birthday and it was expensive, more than any other, BUT TODAY it's way, way beyond expensive..so yeah, there are times when we're so lucky and it's the right time!! Your chandy is also beautiful in gold leaf. Love your grandma's plates and your other collection with the birds. I do have a wall with plates too, I love them! Lots of hugs,

Really beautiful! It's nice to have the space to showcase the gorgeous furniture. Many years ago I gave my formal dining set to my son. After I moved (divorce) I just did not have room for it and I didn't want to look at it anyway. :-) My kids have a lot of my furniture, china, etc. Better to have them use it than have it stored.

I always loved Bombay too! They had unique pieces and yes, a great place for gifts.

Thanks for sharing more of your lovely home!

You have a great space for your family to come too. Everyone gets a seat, you don't have to open up the table to achieve that, and your dining room is big enough. I wish all those years ago Brawn and I would of been a bit more *extravagant*.

Your dining room is just perfect! I decorate with plates in my kitchen but not in my dining room. I love your spacious room and I have a similar, but different clock given to me by an old friend years ago and we had it appraised and they are quite valuable.

Wow! It's been many bygone years since I've seen a table made with such craftsmanship! Definitely a heirloom piece.
Living in Las Vegas I don't get to see built-ins.
You have a wonderful room to entertain and enjoy delicious meals.
