My Home Remedy to Fight the Flu, Colds, Coughs and Sore Throats

For centuries, ginger has been a natural remedy in combating all kinds of ailments. Loaded with antioxidants and vital minerals; this wondrous herb has a wide range of health benefits Treat yourself with a (warm or cold) cup of refreshing homemade fresh ginger tea.


The Chinese have been using Ginger for over 2000 years as a natural remedy for respiratory ailments, allergies, improving blood flow, boosting immunity, stomach aches and stress relief.  It also tastes great too! It's a very soothing drink if you're feeling under the weather. 

Ask me how I know. It's also good anytime.


Fill a pot full of water, about one quart will do and boil it. Add about one half cup of thinly sliced fresh ginger root and simmer for a few hours. The more ginger the better and stronger it is. The ginger fills the kitchen and smells unbelievable....this is my aroma therapy for stress!


Strain your ginger tea when it's cool enough. I put cheesecloth in the strainer to get it perfectly clear. Next I add cane sugar. You can also use brown sugar, cinnamon sticks or honey if you like. 

Sometimes we like ours plain! We tend to eat the honey along with the ginger tea.
(Ginger tea is so refreshing.) 
Now add about the same amount of water when you first started your brew. Filled your drink container with the ginger tea and put it in the fridge so it gets nice and cold.

 
*You can also add lemon or orange juice to the mix and keep it in the fridge as an anytime drink.

You don't need to be sick to enjoy ginger tea. It's so much better for you than soda. 
I'm just saying!

Ginger tea is also good for nausea but do not use sugar if you're making the tea to treat nausea.

I remember my Grandmother always drank ginger tea when she didn't feel well. She would only make a cup at a time though with the ginger you by in the spice isle.

Hi Dee...I am a big beliver in homeopathic remedies and gingerroot is just wonderful. I use it for nausea mostly, even just chewing on a piece of root if you are unable to hold anything down makes your stomach feel less upset. I always have fresh ginger in my frig. I have never made tea with it but I bet is is really good hot or cold!

You drink yours cold as a beverage but in Indonesia it is quite common that people serve you a hot ginger tea, made fresh from ginger root. With honey it will have a double soothing effect on your throat. Ginger indeed is VERY healthy. Used a lot in stir fries too and the taste, together with the hot chilies is great.

Hi Dee, my daughter loves ginger tea, but we have never made it from fresh ginger . . . we cheat and buy the tea bags. I'm sure that the fresh ginger tastes better and will have more healthy benefits. Fresh is always better.

My Mom used to make this lemon and onion tea . . . it was so bad, that you calmed feeling better to get out of drinking it, LOL.

I am so glad you visited me today!! I've missed our visits. My post I am writing right now is about "Priorities" maybe that will explain more.
I will be making this ginger tea this weekend for sure. I love ginger! When I get california roll I have to put the candied ginger on it and when we eat Japanese, I LOVE the ginger dressing.
My only question is, is it sweet? I see you add sugar, but what is it like without it? I also love sweet tea. I don't drink tea or coffee without sugar. So I need it sweet!! But ginger has such a sweet smell to it. I fear I will still need like a ton of sugar!!
If you could let me know I'd appreciate it!! and when I make it, I will tell you how it went!!

Hmmm. Thanks Dee. Never thought of ginger tea as a cold remedy. But will have to try. In the Indian culture ( my father was Punjabi) we drink ginger tea just because , :-). Hot on a cool afternoon... after a meal.... But I have never thought of your idea. I will have to do that. The method is the same.. slices simmered. Sweeten if desired w/ honey.
Now I ahve another reason to brew some.
