How to Update a Lamp with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and a New Shade

Would you love to update your lamps but don't know how to go about it? Anyone can do this! It's so quick and easy! 

I was amazed how fast I could transform a lamp with 

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

 The color I used was Old White - Chalk Paint.

{The French script lampshade is from Walmart} Walmart has beautiful and cheap lampshades. The lampshade was under $10.00. Walmart has many wonderful styles and sizes to choose from. 

For this project all I did was paint the lamp with a coat of chalk paint. Instead of sanding the lamp after the paint dried I decided to use a DRY paper towel. I wiped off areas where I did not want the paint to stick while the lamp was still wet. Super easy if you don't want to sand yet you want the look you see in all the magazines and stores. 
I think the lamp turned out beautiful! My lamp is now updated and trendy. I'm a true fan of chalk paint. Are YOU TOO? There are now so many different brands of chalk paint on the market. Home Depot is now selling chalk paint. It's called Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint.

  
I applied a coat of Minwax clear paste finishing wax and just started to buff with a cotton cloth after the paint dried. It was so easy to do. You can find clear paste wax at any home improvement store. I've even seen the clear paste wax at the supermarket. 

You can skip the wax and just spray on a poly finish. I recommend using Minwax Polycrylic water based clear finish. The reason for waxing or using poly is it seals the paint and keeps it from chipping. You don't need to do anything after painting your lamp it's all up to you. Adding a finish to your lamp will make dusting easier and will give your lamp a beautiful low luster shine. 

I can't wait to start working on the rest of my lamps.
